First run

Gary starts talking to whichever game you have selected on his own. You should hear a radio check from the crew chief and the spotter — if you do, audio is working.

Two things worth setting up straight away, in Settings:

Push-to-talk

Click Map… next to Push-to-talk button and press a button on your wheel or button box — ideally a plain button straight off the wheel, not one routed through a remapper.

Without a button mapped, Gary doesn’t listen at all. This is deliberate: a mic with nothing mapped used to listen to everything — engine noise, the spotter, you talking to someone else - and occasionally act on it. If you want a hands-free always-on mic anyway, tick Listen without a push-to-talk button under the mapping, but know it can misfire the same way.

Changing the button (or that tickbox) restarts Gary automatically to apply it.

Wake name

Rather not press anything? Tick Wake name on the front page. Then say “Gary”, wait for the tone, and ask - or say it all in one go: “Gary, how much fuel”. “Hey Gary” works too, and you can change the name. It works with or without a button mapped.

Gary only answers to his name while he’s connected to the sim, so it coming up on Discord or on stream between sessions doesn’t set him off.

Your name

Used on the greeting and urgent calls — “Diego! Box this lap.” Leave it blank to skip it.

Handy extras

The Always on top tickbox on the front page keeps Gary above your sim window — useful on a second monitor where the sim keeps covering him up.

Voices

Two voices ship with Gary — Alan for the crew chief, Sophie for the spotter. Fifteen more are available in Settings.

Downloading one takes about 60 MB and a minute or two, because Gary also has to render the spotter’s phrases in that voice. Gary restarts himself when a download finishes — that’s expected, and it’s the only way the new voice takes effect.

Any voice can be either persona, including the same one for both. Clear unused deletes voices you tried and didn’t keep.
