Voice commands

Hold your push-to-talk button while you speak, or tap it and then speak - or, with the wake name on, start with “Gary”. Each of these has lots of accepted wordings - the examples below are just one each.

Nothing here needs an exact script. “How’s my fuel” and “what’s my fuel situation” both work - say it however you’d say it to a real crew chief.

Commands marked iRacing or LMU only work in that sim.

Your lap

Ask You get
“what’s my delta” How far up or down you are on your best
“last lap” The time you just did
“best lap” Your best of the session
“sector times” Each sector of your last lap

Fuel and energy

Ask You get
“how much fuel do I have” Laps of fuel left
“how’s my fuel” He asks: laps remaining, or how much you’re using? Answer “laps” or “usage”
“fuel usage” Last lap, best, worst and stint average
“fuel to the end” Sets the pit stop to fill enough to finish, plus your margin
“how much fuel do I need for qualifying” / “…for the race” Ask before you go out: the litres for that session from your own fuel use here, its laps or time, and your margin - and how many stops if it won’t fit. Tells you, doesn’t set it - iRacing
“full tank” / “fill it up” Sets the pit stop to a full tank - full energy in LMU. A series fuel limit counts as full
“fuel margin two laps” / “fuel margin half a lap” / “fuel margin a quarter lap” Changes the margin for the next stop only. “Point five” and “point two five” work too
“is the fuel window open” Whether a stop now costs no extra stop - or how many laps until it does
“how’s the fuel saving” / “am I under the fuel target” Last lap against the fuel save target, and how much you’re in hand or short since the save started
“what’s my fuel target” / “how much fuel should I be using” The fuel save target
“let’s save fuel” / “forget the fuel save” Start or stop saving to drop a stop - any time, not just when Gary offers it
“our fuel save target is 2 point 4” Takes a target from your teammate’s handover - see Team races
“how’s my energy” Virtual Energy left - LMU
“fuel to energy balance” Whether fuel or energy runs out first - LMU
“how’s my battery” Hybrid charge and which way it’s going - LMU Hypercars
“how did the battery go here last time” Last time at this track in this car - LMU Hypercars

Race

Ask You get
“what position am I in” Your position - in a multiclass race, in class and overall
“gap ahead” / “gap behind” Time to the car either side
“am I gaining on the car ahead” / “is the car behind catching me” Which way the gap’s going and how fast - “You’re gaining, about 0.3 a lap. Gap’s 2.1.” Needs a lap on that car first
“what’s going on with the car ahead” Gap, their last lap, and the trend
“where’s the car behind” Where they are on track
“who’s leading” The leader
“where’s the leader” Where the leader is on track, and how far up the road - iRacing
“where’s P3” / “where’s the car in position 3” Who’s in that position and where they are. In a multiclass race that’s P3 in your class - add “overall” for the overall position - iRacing
“where’s P1 in L M P two” / “where’s P3 in my class” A class position - iRacing
“where’s the overall leader” The overall leader, whatever the class - iRacing
“where’s my class leader” Your class leader, wherever they are - iRacing
“where’s the nearest GTP” / “where’s the GT3 leader” The closest car of a class, ahead or behind, or that class’s leader - iRacing. See the class list
“where’s the nearest faster car” / “…slower car” The closest car from a faster or slower class than yours - works whatever the classes are called - iRacing
“how long is left” Time or laps remaining
“status update” Position, gaps and fuel in one go
“do I need another stop” Whether you can make the finish
“where would I come out if I pit now” Your likely position after a stop

Gaps every lap

For a fight - Gary reads the gaps to the cars ahead and behind in your class just after the line, with how they moved that lap. Race only; it switches itself off when you pit or take the flag.

Say Effect
“give me the gaps every lap” / “delta mode” Both sides, every lap
“gaps every 3 laps” Both sides, every 3 laps (2 to 10)
“just the car ahead” / “gap ahead every 5 laps” Ahead only
“just the car behind” / “gap behind every 4 laps” Behind only
“stop the gaps” Off

The car

Ask You get
“how’s the car” / “damage report” Damage
“tyre wear” / “tyre temps” Tyre condition - LMU
“how are my tyres” Asks “Wear, or temperatures?” - LMU
“what tyres am I on” Your current tyres - LMU
“how many new tyres have I got” / “what used tyres do I have” Your tyre allowance - LMU
“how many tyres have I got left” LMU: asks “New or used?”. iRacing: left and right sets left on a limited-tyre oval
“have I run both compounds” The two-compound rule - iRacing
“how were my tyres last stop” Tread measured at your last stop, each corner - iRacing
“any penalties” Penalty status
“how many track limit points do I have” Track limits - LMU
“how many incidents” Your incident count - iRacing
“where did I pick up my incidents” A rundown of each one - iRacing

Conditions

“is it raining”, “is the track wet”, “how’s the sky looking”, “track temp”, “air temp”, “how’s the grip”, and “should I be on wets”.

Other drivers

By name - “where is Verstappen” (where they are on track, their position and the gap on the road - iRacing), “what position is Verstappen in”, “last lap for Hamilton”, “best lap for Norris”, “is Leclerc in my class”, “what tyres is Russell on”, “iRating for Piastri” (iRacing). “What’s my iRating” works for you too.

Classes by name

Say class names as letters - “G T three”, “L M P two”. Gary knows:

Class Say
GTP “G T P” or “hypercar”
LMP1 / LMP2 / LMP3 “L M P one”, “L M P two” (or “P two”), “L M P three” (or “P three”)
GT1 / GT2 / GT3 / GT4 / GTE “G T one” … “G T four”, “G T E”
TCR / HPD “T C R”, “H P D”
Production Car Challenge “M two”, “G R eighty six” (or “eighty six”), “Clio”, “M X five” (or “Miata”)
Others “Porsche Cup” (or “cup car”), “C T S V”, “Kia”

A class that isn’t on the list can still be found with “where’s the nearest faster car” or “…slower car”, and “where’s my class leader” works for your own class whatever it’s called.

Briefings

When you want several things at once: “tell me about my fuel”, “tell me about the tyres”, “tell me about the race”, “tell me about the car”. Gary asks which part you mean - “Position, gaps, or time left?” - and you answer with just that word. Ignore the question and say something else if you’ve moved on; he won’t keep waiting.

Pit stops

“Set up my pit stop” walks you through it. You can also set things directly:

  • Tyres - “four tyres” (or “change the tyres”), “fronts only”, “rears only”, “left side”, “change the right front”, “no tyres”
  • Fuel - “add 20 litres”, “add 5 laps of fuel” (or “of energy” in LMU), “no fuel”, “fuel to the end”, or “full tank” (also “fill it up”, “brim it”)
  • Also - “tearoff” (iRacing), “fast repair”, “clear the pit stop”
  • “How long on repairs” - required and optional repair time left (iRacing).
  • “What’s my stop set to” reads it back.
  • “Should I box this lap” checks the fuel and who you’d rejoin among. “Where would I come out” gives your class position after the stop.

Sectors

Say Effect
“give me sectors at the end of the lap” One rundown after each lap
“call every sector live” Each sector called as you finish it
“only call out notable sectors” Live, but quiet unless it’s worth hearing

Hotlapping

Say Effect
“turn by turn on” / “turn by turn off” Corner-by-corner time against your best, after each lap - practice, qualifying and testing
“turn by turn each sector” / “turn by turn end of lap” When the corners are called
“where did I lose time” Corner by corner on your last lap, any session
“where am I losing time to the car ahead” (or behind) Corner by corner on the fight
“find me a target” A Garage61 lap a little quicker than your best - iRacing, offline testing
“go for the fastest” The quickest Garage61 lap found - iRacing
“next target” One step up the ladder - iRacing
“what’s my target” Who you’re chasing and how far off - iRacing

Corners

Say Effect
“give me turn numbers” Calls corners as “Turn 3”
“give me turn names” Back to corner names, where Gary has them

How much he talks

Say Effect
“quiet mode” / “pipe down” Only urgent calls get through
“back to normal” Normal chatter
“keep me informed” Everything
“mute the spotter” / “spotter on” Spotter only
“mute debris warnings” / “debris warnings on” Debris calls only
“race prep on” / “race prep off” Practice-stint debriefs

There is also one command that does nothing useful whatsoever. You’ll find it.
